My prediction for the future of education, in short, is this: First class online material in combination with digital learning tools replaces the traditional teacher role in imparting knowledge; the teacher role will on the other hand evolve into a combination of coach, counselor and sometimes even guard.
However, these online classes have a long way to go before finding their ”final” form, or the format that is going to be the dominant form of learning in years to come. We are seeing glimpses of a different way of learning, but we are not quite there. This article in the NYT suggests that, as is common with new technologies, some early hopes were too optimistic.
